Q: How far is the beach from our accommodations? Is the beach safe for swimming? A: The bungalows are about 40/100 feet above the ocean and it is about a 40 to 100 steps to our small and private beach. There are very few shells but it is very scenic and serene. There are no rip tides or undercurrents and it is good for swimming. While swimming at the beach is good and safe it is a "Pacific" beach and not the white sand or crystal clear waters. There is also a deck, lawn chairs, shaded areas, showers and restroom. You will probably encounter more hermit crabs crawling along the beach sand than you have ever seen in any one place before. Sometimes there are "no-see-ems" but usually they are no real problem. Mosquitoes are rare here both at the main lodge and along the beach.
There is some good snorkeling but it is on outside islands and you would have to go by boat.

Q: Is there air conditioning at Seagullcove Lodge? A: Bungalows have both air conditioners and ceiling fans to allow you to set the internal ambience to your own preferences
Q: Health Concerns and Medical Emergencies A: There are two excellent state of the art hospitals in David, about an hour from the hotel. Currently, no immunizations, shots, inoculations or vaccinations are required to enter the country. If you want to be extra careful, please consult your personal physician. You should also check with your carrier when making reservations, as health regulations may change without notice. Remember, the tropical sun can be strong; so it’s wise to take protective sunglasses and sunscreen with you.
Q: What about safety in Panama city? A: Panama was given the highest ranking for tourist safety from the Pinkerton Intelligence Agency. But as with any foreign destination, it is not advisable to walk around the streets flashing your money or valuable belongings. Reports of people being pick-pocketed in Panama are rare, but it’s best to assume that pickpockets are around. Just use common sense and your intuition to protect yourself.
Q: Climate & Weather A: Since we are located right in the tropics, and close to the Equator, Panama has two well defined seasons: dry season from December to April and Rainy (green) Season from May to November. July and August are typically wet months all over Panama however, the rain, especially on the Pacific coast, occurs only late in the afternoon, evening or night while you can expect sunny mornings and early afternoon. Rainiest months will be spotted by end of September and October. Warm temperatures are characteristic throughout the year. Boca Chica area in particular is blessed as we usually get showers later in the day than any other area.
Q: What about bugs and insect repellent?
A: There is no flat land and no standing water in or around the Seagullcove Lodge property, which means that we are fortunate enough to have almost no mosquitoes. Sometimes near sundown "no-see-ums" will appear near the beach and or around the main lodge, but in general, their presence is very minimal.
Anyway it is a good idea to bring some insect repellent, especially for the hikes and activities in the nearby rainforest and Islands. Any good brand of insect repellent that works for you where you live will also works in Panama. We recommend that, when possible, rely on non aerosol cans that contain less toxic ingredients.
